Sports Massage
Sports massage at SSL Massage Therapies is a targeted massage treatment for those suffering with pain, have a minor injury whereby sports massage would support their recovery or for those who prefer a sports massage for maintenance purposes. Whilst sports massage was initially developed with athletes in mind, the knowledge and skills it provides, has been found to be beneficial for others. Here at SSL Massage Therapies we treat people from a range of backgrounds including amateur athletes, manual workers to office workers and stay-at-home parents.
Michelle holds a Level 4 Active IQ qualification in Sports Massage Therapy. This more in-depth level of massage training equips Michelle with the knowledge and skills to screen, assess and treat more individuals and offer a more targeted meaningful approach rather than a generic treatment protocol (please note; a massage therapist cannot diagnose). From time to time, our assessments may indicate referral is needed to a health professional prior to us providing any hands-on treatment or whereby we feel alternative therapies may be of more benefit. If this is advised, it is with your best interests in mind and to ensure you receive the best possible care. Sports massage should not be used as a substitute to an appropriate medical assessment where indicated.

We will use a variety of techniques during your treatment, as indicated by our assessments and professional judgement. This may include the use of traditional effleurage, petrissage and tapotement techniques along with neuromuscular techniques and/or soft tissue mobilisation. The belief that "more pain, more gain" in sports massage is a very outdated concept and with our ongoing training surrounding pain science, we understand how important it is to work within your levels of comfort. That doesn't mean we can't work "deeply" but that our to touch is meaningful and soothing.

Our primary goal is always to enhance your wellness, to help you feel better, reduce your level of pain, optimise your movement and reduce the risk of re-occurrence of injuries and pain.
